 Installing a new application using Synaptic Package Manager
Solution To find and install a new application available through the built-in package manager, first click on system, then administration, then Synaptic Package Manager.

Step 1 of installing a new application

Depending on your settings, you may be prompted with a password window. Enter the password of your user account to open the window.

Step 2 of installing a new application

The left pane of the window contains applications sorted by category. To view all in a specific category, click on the category in the left pane and the applications will display in the top right pane. If you're looking for a specific application, you can click on the search button on the top and type in the name. Your search results will appear in the top right pane.

Step 3 of installing a new application

Any applications already installed will have a green checkbox by default. Applications with an Ubuntu logo beside it are from the official Ubuntu repository. To install an application, click the checkbox for it and click on the apply button on the top menu.
